The truck turned onto the large highway and made it's way along the road towards New York City. In the rear of the truck Karl watched as he looked over the Changling device. The device it's self was covered in small LED green lights that blinked it's status but for three lights that were red. These would turn green when the device was armed. There would be a small explosion as the trailer would be blown apart spreading the virus far and wide. Next to the device sat two smaller one. These would be slipped into water reservoirs - their first target was in Hudson Valley. The first device would be put in there and would be detonated by carrier wave. Their second target was the Ashokan Reservoir as this was the largest. Sara was being well cared for, she wouldn't be harmed at all, they had of course locked her in one of the residential rooms. Mostly for her own good. Karl didn't want to do it but he knew he had to as she endangered the project.

Air and water were the best ways to spread the virus, in fact it would be even more virulent in water. The Truck came off the high way and head towards the reservoir. The driver Katrine Smith was well known to Karl and the group, if anything the husky was one of his more ardent followers. She'd joined the group when they had been looking for transportation; she owned a small truck rental firm and had been the only outsider to know of the whole plan. It was a risk Karl knew but she had come through with flying colours. The others really didn't know much about her, and Karl knew enough, she had that haunted look in her eyes like something terrible had happened. He knew whatever it was drove her without mercy; she was just about everything he needed. She didn't flinch at committing to the plan. The truck stopped and a door opened. The a few moments later the rear door of the trailer opened. In front of Karl stood Katrine, she was wearing what could only be described as a white over-all. At one time Katrine had been rather successful, but with her sudden and unexpected change to a Husky female she had lost a lot of business. She didn't talk of her family or such. She was to put it nicely over developed in her muscles mass and breasts. Nineteen eight seven had brought many changes and more and more furs were being born over the years why no one knew.

"Well what we standing around here for a nice picnic or something?" questioned Katrine.

"Alright Katrine we'll get going, all we need to do is slip the device into the water and leave a calling card" replied Karl.

"I told you never to call me that name, Kat will do fine" she snarled softly.

As the husky lifted the device all on her own her biceps bulged as she took in a few breaths and exhaled slowly. Lifting it from the rear of the truck she took it out to the sidewall of the reservoir and padded along a small warf to a motorboat. She started the engine and let it take the craft out into what seemed to be the middle of the reservoir and lifted the device, it slipped over the side and gently splashed into the water. It wasn't long before it settled tat the bottom and Katrine returned to the warf. The group outside called themselves 'Black Panther' it had already tested the virus in two places and the test had gone well humans changed over night in two towns some distance away. The virus only affected humans just as the group had planed.

Karl tapped what was a small brown box to the wall, inside was a tape recording of one of the group, their voice distorted. The tape contained the following:

"This is the voice of Black Panther, we will continue to take our revenge. You started the shockwave with your unprovoked attack upon our race. This act of aggression will be avenged, our retaliation will be slow but none the less effective, you will pay in full"

"Do you have the time Karl?" asked Kat.

"Twenty to nine" Karl replied as he looked to his furry wrist.

"Fine two more devices we should be able to do it on time and detonate around twelve. Water consumption is greater then and everyone will be out and about for dinner," Katrine said softly.

Constable Peter Richards has seen and heard just about as much as a single person could but this wasn't something he liked at all. The Male human had hold of a phone receiver to his ear. He sighed and put the phone down and stretched. He waved over a young woman from the front desk.

"Sasha I have something you'll be interested in a patrol cruiser was found six miles out of town. The cruiser is from St Louis; the officer seems to have gone missing so I'll leave this one to you Sasha. You need the experience"

The young blonde woman grinned and looked to Richards, she swept the folder from the desk and chuckled lightly.

"Thanks for giving me this chance Officer Richards" Sasha replied softly.

"Yeah well just don't make me regret it" Richards said as he walked off towards the front desk.

Maltray looked from the small hill over looking the city of New York Eliki padded close to him. The Snowkitten admired the view, the fox nodded to him and smiled.

"You're doing very well for your first time out," Maltray said softly.

The fox shifted position and looked further west and then back to the east. He sighed softly and stretched his wings as he watched a line of traffic snaking into the city it's self. Maltray wasn't fond of metropolitan area's but he guessed what he liked and disliked didn't come into it much at all.

"I guess it's going to be a little more difficult in the city?" questioned Eliki.

"Yes but Mara's been onto control they are sending a few holographic belts over. You all should be fine after this we're return to your home dimension, it seems a safer place to rest and relax. I doubt control will send us on another mission so soon after this one"

"That I'm quite glad about Maltray so we'll be able to move around easily?" Eliki asked his tail end twitched here and there.

"Yes we best get sorted with the belts and move on I think there sooner we get finished the better"

The second Reservoir was smaller than the other, the truck had been stopped on the road nearby and Kat was busy slipping the second device underneath the water and let it go. She stretched and looked over the water from the small rowboat and smiled. She liked Karl he was everything she needed, the two got on well together. Her goals were exactly the same as his. She doubted she'd ever ask him to marry her thought it wasn't the best thing to do. Living outside of town and away from most people she hadn't been bothered much by the police. After rowing the boat back to shore, she slipped out of it and padded to Karl, he'd just finished with the second package claiming responsibility for the act.

"Time's pushing us really, we should head for the Metropolitan Museum of Art" Kat said as she slipped into the truck.

"I've been thinking isn't it possible to hid the device somewhere that way it can detonate in the open air, it'll spread faster that way as well" Karl said as he slipped into the passenger seat.

"Your probably right" replied Kat as she started the engine of the truck.

Max padded around the small room; the Lion looked to the clock and shook his head. His mane ruffled a little and he took a seat at the large ornate desk. The room was lightly furnished and was without much of a carpet. There was a small lamp which was out as the power would not be needed till late into the evening. Their plan was a rather dangerous one but if completed in the stages that had been set out and if the followed the instructions of Targeted they would be fine. The large holding complex two miles west of New York was the target for the day. He chewed his lower lips a little and padded away from the chair and desk to the window and looked out. He could not help but smile as he gazed over the young ones playing in the street. The Future would be theirs if the humans would allow it. Max sighed softly he'd never thought he would turn into an anthropomorphic lion but it had happened. Before the change and the passing of 286 he'd worked on the new skyscrapers in the city and sometimes he missed it. Why he suddenly changed over night he didn't know but he guessed things were seldom up to him. As he watched Jenna came into the view the Husky had changed into a pair of white pants and a blue shirt. Next to her was Jenny; she'd dumped the police uniform for a white T-shirt and jeans. Most would be staying behind with the others while Max and about nine others when to 'raid' the holding complex. The Lion turned from the window and padded out of the room into the larger room next door. The others waited their and Max picked up the dart gun and pistol.

"Alright lets move out and remember keep your heads down!" Max said.

Eliki was rather surprised as Maltray didn't take a belt. The Fox slipped out of sight and returned as a human. How he did it the Snowkitten wasn't sure. The other had already slipped the belts around their waists and Mara showed them how to turn the devices on. The controls were behind a gold buckle. Leana slipped her hand to the buckle and touched the control, there was a slight flicker of static as the belt and projectors formed the human disguise. Maltray looked everyone over and it all seemed fine, he just hoped it would be enough; they would enter the city of New York very soon. They would find most of the stuff was reconnaissance and one action if it was needed.

The cruiser sat in a ditch nearby; Sasha had been over it with a fine toothcomb. The car was clean and in it's self was unusual. The only damage was to the front bumper where it had hit against the side of the drainage channel. Things like this seldom happened as it was always clear that all officers kept with their patrol partner. Sasha stretched as she stood up, and sighed. She was rather glad she'd brought a tow truck along. She signalled to the driver to remove the cruiser from the drain. She watched as the truck pulled the car free and deposited it on the side of the road. Sasha watched as the tow truck guy unhooked the car and passed a large clipboard to her. She took the pen she was offered and signed her name. The guy took the board back and slipped it into the front of the truck. Sasha watched as he drove off and she slipped back into the cruiser, she opened the glove box and looked through it. There wasn't much there, the usual bits of paper work and the odd reports and a list of 268's to pick up. An officer J. M. Smith had signed off the list, the last pick up wasn't singed off for some reason. Sasha sighed as she put two and two together; she raised her left hand to her radio and depressed the switch.

"Officer Mason to dispatch" said Sasha.

"Go ahead Officer Mason"

"That St Louis patrol Cruiser, I'm reporting officer J M Smith Missing presumed AWOL. The cruisers tracker says it had been at the address she and her partner was supposed to pick up a two eight six."

"Understood Officer Mason, well handle the rest from here"

The magnificent building loomed over the two furs; Karl was busy looking for a likely hiding place for the device. The final one had to be in place before twelve noon when the first device would send a coded pulse wave to the two others in the reservoirs all three would detonate together. The small plaza of the museum wasn't that large and the two crossed it quickly. Karl slipped the large case the device was in behind a scroll worked stone pillar and slipped out of sight. The device had a self-timer and the two waited in the truck, the rear doors had one-way glass in them and they relaxed for the five minutes it would take.

At precisely twelve o'clock Greenwich Mean Time the device felt the go signal, the three light's that had been red went to green and a radio signal was sent to the two other devices. Detonation came quickly the explosion of the device ripped the case apart spreading the virus for five nautical miles. It then started replicating it's self in the air and was soon spreading out across the city.

Meanwhile at the two reservoirs great plumes of water shot up from the two devices as they detonated, the virus spread like wild fire within the massive volumes of water, it would be easily carried along the water system and nothing would be able to treat it. Karl looked on he didn't smile, he watched as the two police officers seemed to come from nowhere. They were the first to contract the virus, now Karl knew all they had to do was wait.

Location: 2 Miles West of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Time 12:15 am

Maltray's watch device started screaming an alarm as the group walked within the city. Eliki was looking around still rather amazed that all the humans were seeing were just a bunch of other humans. Leana was walking behind him as Mara's watch started to ring out an alarm. The two brought the wrists up and shut off the alarms and looked to them. Maltray looked to Cybernet and pointed over to a large bench in a small park nearby. Taking a seat Mara looked to Maltray.

"Is it what I think it is?" the wolfess asked.

Maltray frowned and looked to the watch and then back to Mara. The watch face showed a small icon, one of a globe with a ring of green fire around it. Maltray tapped a few buttons and the image went away. He pursed his lips and let of a slow sigh.

"Genesis" said Maltray quickly.

"Genesis as in the bible?" asked Cybernet.

"Hardly, Project Genesis also known as The Genesis Torpedo as it's been called, has cropped up six dimensions that we know of. Three of them have developed it into a terrifying weapon of mass destruction. The Confederation has the only working and safe blueprint for Project Genesis. The Genesis Project is or was a scientific research project whose goal was to develop a process whereby uninhabitable planets could be re-formed into worlds suitable for life. The process involved a massive explosion that reduced the planet to subatomic particles, which then reassembled according to a pre-programmed matrix, described simply it is life from lifelessness. However deployed, where life already existed, Genesis would destroy such life, in favour of its new Matrix, giving it the potential to be a terrible weapon of mass destruction, making it infinitely capable of surpassing nuclear weaponry. It was decided that Genesis was too much of a danger to be used. All the major powers of our universe have signed the Genesis Device None proliferation treaty. Under the treaty the use of Genesis and its derivatives is strictly banned. What we've just picked up is use of one of those derivatives" finished Mara.

"Detonation was a few miles away, fortunately it's not the full blow Genesis Device we're dealing with. If it was we'd already be gone. All I know Genesis is unstoppable." commented Maltray.

"So are we in the crapper?" asked Eliki with a look of concern in his eyes.

"I can't be sure it depends on to many variables. I guess that war isn't going to happen now. I wonder if we will be recalled by control," queried Maltray.

Location: Central New York, Central Park

Time: 12:17 am

The wind picked up suddenly around those humans that were walking through the park. As Maltray had said Genesis was unstoppable. A police officer was walking through the park keeping an eye out for any trouble. He wasn't sure why but he felt suddenly hot. Not even the tress were giving him any shade at all, he guessed it was pointless going for a swim or such. He yawned and took a seat on one of the many park benches.

That was when the screaming started, the screams seemed to the officer to be coming from all over the park. He brought up his two-way and advised the dispatcher what was going on. The radio slipped from his hand as lighting stabs of paralysis passed through his right arm. Suddenly his muscles began to grow bigger and started to prise apart the seams of the jacket he was wearing. His whole body became paralysed as the odd sensations became worse. Whatever was going on it wasn't pain full more surprising. The jacket seams tore and ripped as his muscles continued to grow. The tattered jacket fell to the floor along with his shirt. The officer looked down as the skin became a golden tawny yellow and what seemed like patches of hair started to break out. He suddenly realised that the hair wasn't that at all it was fur. The glint of fear swept across his eyes as he sat helplessly and watched as his body changed. From his face a large muzzle broke out slowly at first but gathered pace as it grew and changed. It seemed like forever and a day for the change to finish to the officer but in real time only a few minutes had passed.

He managed to stand as the paralysis passed as quickly as it had come. Standing he tried a few steps whatever had happened he guessed he would be reconsidering proposition 268. As he walked from the small area he had been sitting in he noticed that only his pants remained. Granted it seemed a little tight. He slipped a hand behind himself and found that there was a large bulge behind him. He slipped his hand into his pants and found a tail. Taking a small penknife he'd confiscated earlier in the day he cut a small hole in his pants and pushed his tail thought it. He rounded the next corner and looked out on a large clear area around him all sorts of morphs were wandering around asking each other what had happened.

Time 13:02

Maltray and Eliki sat together on the steps of the museum they and the others were looking around for anything unusual. The winged fox was frowning, as this mission seemed to be cursed to come out as a botched attempt. Control would not be happy at all. Well at least he'd had not needed to kill anyone. Every dark cloud had a silver lining after all. Maltray guessed he'd had to get it over with, he knew Mara would send the report for him. Cybernet came up to the pair and sat down nearby.

"Nothing, nothing at all" commented Cybernet as Maltray looked at him.

"Odd it's to damn clean, something must have done it. It's not every day we have that alarm going off like that," replied Maltray.

"The others are still looking but I can't see anything out of the ordinary myself," replied Cybernet.

Maltray knew what he had to do; he raised his watch like device and tapped a button.

"Computer begin recording"

Captain's Log Stardate 60015.8

Captain Maltray F Fox reporting, it seems once again our current mission to stop a war between the human and the Anthromorph's of this dimension has utterly failed. Only the unknown release of Genesis derived technology has stopped this world from falling into chaos. Central control of course will not be gladdened of this result. From what we can work out the war that was to take place here was short and very brief. Commander Mara and I think there will have been a few thousand casualties on each side, not the best way to start out I guess. I have to say that our new field agent's Eliki, Leana, Andrina and Cybernet have taken things very well. I remember my first outing into the multiverse and I can't say I did as well as they have. With the war over in a matter of six hours we cannot even start to work out where or even if there will be knock on effects. It makes me kind of sad that someone had to resort to Genesis. Hmm Pandora's box in a highly technical package someone once called it. I know we solved the proto-matter problem by using pre-animate matter in the devices matrix. It still holds a power few understand; to be very honest I don't want to understand that kind of power. In the mythology of Earth Prime Pandora's curiosity dammed the world to all the evils that could ever be unleashed but there remained one thing... hope. I can only hope that what has happened here is for the best.

End log.

Mara watched Maltray as she came over and stood next to him while he made his log entry. Most starship captains hadn't been able to give up the habit. Granted Maltray had kept the choice to return to active duty if he wanted to. The Confederation Starfleet consisted of thousands upon thousands of starships. It had to mostly so it could patrol the space lanes between various empires and the Confederation and sector patrols. Even within the Confederation smuggling went on, with some two hundred and fifty plus planets to oversee and such it wasn't an easy task. Perhaps that nice easy job on Memory Alpha where the knowledge of the Confederation was stored did seem rather tempting at the moment.

"Well this sure beats baby sitting newly appointed Ensigns on some out of the way relay station near the T'Arn Empire neutral zone" Mara commented.

"Careful what you wish for" replied Maltray.

"There's nothing here out of the ordinary, but for that van over there near the plaza," replied Mara.

"Worth taking a look?" asked Adriana.

"Maybe, where do you hide a book?" questioned Maltray.

"Best place to hide a book is in a library," replied Eliki.

The Snowkitten had been watching the van for some reason he did wonder why it was there. What alarmed him about it he wasn't sure; maybe a sixth sense. Eliki was sure something didn't add up correctly, Maltray looked to him and put his head to one side slightly. The Fox's ears raised up a little more and stood fully erect on his head.

"It's a hunch Maltray, you must get them right?" questioned Eliki.

Maltray quickly thought it over, at times hunches could play out well. Several times he had gone with a hunch and it had paid out rather well.

"Alright Eliki we'll go with your hunch" replied Maltray as he started walking towards the van.

As they approached the Van started up, there was a slight squeal of tyres spinning and the van took off. It was rather fortunate they didn't get that. Something rather strange happened Eliki had just put a hand and the van came to a sudden stop, the rear doors came off their hinges. Karl and Kat slipped out of the driver's door and started running. Fortunately for them they could make it elsewhere. The two had soon passed up the street and hopped into a smaller red van. The van took off at high speed leaving the others behind.

"Damn, should have sent for ground transport didn't I say we should?" questioned Mara.

"We could catch them near the bridge we passed about an hour ago but we'll have to use site to site" replied Mara.

"Alright set it up and we'll see what we can do," replied Maltray.

**********

The red van approached the slipway to the Williamsburg Bridge, the van was driving along slowly as the traffic had built up, the van started to speed along a little faster. In the rear was Sara she was hoping that the group was setting her free which of course they were, it was just they wanted to release her some distance away from the labs. Karl and Kat were sitting in the front, Karl was driving and watching the traffic. It was then the van's tyre exploded with a loud bang. Karl lost control very quickly, the van screamed across the roadway and slammed into the bridge's side. The van span over and over and landed on its side a sprinkling of glass was spewed over the occupants. Both Karl Kat and Sara were tossed out. Sasha was thrown over the side of the bridge and grabbed at onto of the supporting wires. As Karl came round he found that Kat was on the ground bleeding for a sever head wound. He quickly checked her pulse. She was alive... just about.

"Sara where are you?" called Karl loudly.

From the small handhold Sara could see it was some distance to the water. It was obvious if she fell she'd not make it.

"Here over the side!" called back Sara.

Karl ran over and put his head over there side of the bridge and looked to the west, finding nothing she looked east, there Sara hung onto a steel rope with both hands Sara slipped quite a little. Handpaws were not the best thing to grip on with. She fell slightly further down towards the river beneath. She looked to Karl and sighed knowing she was out of reach.

"Give me your hand you silly vixen, your being a fool"

"Me the fool? No, you're the fool. You've thown everything away because the world hurt you. Nobody ever said the world was an easy place, no ever said you wouldn't be hurt. If you were not sufficiently loved it's your own fault, not the worlds. You had everything, I had little. I had to work to get to where I wanted to be. You bought your way in. But I'll have more humanity, more love in my going out than you'll ever have!" replied Sara.

The vixen looked to Karl and sighed again, she slipped and put out a hand, Karl nearly touched her finger and with that she fell and plummeted to the river far below.

**********

Mara looked from the bank then to the bridge and then to Maltray and then to Eliki. It was Leana who was first to speak.

"Can't we do something?" she asked softly.

"No... I'm afraid not we can interfere to keep the time line correct, but more than that is direct action. It's just not allowed I'm afraid," commented Maltray.

The fox's ears were flat against his head. He would help her if he was allowed but things had already gone wrong. The wrist comp bleeped and he brought it up.

"Standby to transport home, I and Mara won't be coming just yet we have recall orders. That means we're to debrief. I doubt control is very happy at all" commented Maltray.

There was a flash of light as the group vanished leaving only Maltray and Kara. They to a few seconds later vanished a pulse of blinding white light.
